Learn How Kids Embrace, Consume and Socialize Using Technology

Peeling Back the Curtain: Things You Didn’t Want to Know about the Internet

By Parenting Today's KidsAugust 27, 2012

ParentingToday’sKids.com is devoted to making parents aware of potential issues their children may face and how to address those problems.  After we published Tommy Jordan’s article here covering a horrific side of the Internet, we realized, while important to make people aware, we do not have the ability to provide any assistance in stopping these crimes against children mentioned in the article.  Therefore, we have decided to take the article down. At ParentingTodaysKids, we want to stay true to our focus to work on providing parents with solutions related to their kids and technology. The article can be read in full on Tommy’s site, 8minutesoffame.com.

We look forward to continuing to provide you with good information, advice, and solutions to protect your kids online.

I think that the underlying issue here is not the stuff that is on the internet, but how we arm our children to deal with it. Snuff, pedophilia, drugs, firearms, strangers with candy…these things have been around forever, and there has always been a way to find them if you really wanted to. Sure, the internet makes it easier, but so what? It’s the morality that we teach that will keep our kids safe. I could have gotten a gun to my high school, I could have gotten weed, coke, PCP, heroin, but I never sought that stuff out because my parents were a part of my life and made sure that I understood WHY those things were bad choices. Some of this stuff is really heinous, but if your kids wants to find it, they will. Teach them why it’s wrong. Teach then why it’s dangerous. Knowledge is power.

I have never been so disturbed.. and while im not naive, I dont ever want to think that this stuff really happens because god forbid I cant understand a sick mind. The universe needs a serious clean out..
Thankyou for the wake up.. its prompted more open communication between my family (3 boys) and to reinforce our Internet rules..
I admire your take on the world Tommy.

Holy Lord. Even knowing it is there doesn’t reduce the horror.
Keep on keepin’ on, Tommy. You are appreciated.
and for those that actually commit these crimes, there will come a day when you are judged. Thank God.

I am pretty sure that the whole shooting the lap top video was a hoax to get viewers. It really makes me second guess the validity of the article.
