Learn How Kids Embrace, Consume and Socialize Using Technology

Jenny McCarthy Texts Nude Photo of Herself … to Her Son’s Dentist. What Does Your Kid Do With Their Phone?

By Lisa ShawJune 20, 2012

I just heard on the radio that earlier this week Jenny McCarthy accidentally sent her 10- year-old son’s dentist a nude picture of herself. Apparently the 39-year-old mom revealed that she had shared a naked image with the pediatric dental expert when she was feeling panicked.

The dentist asked her to take of picture of an abscess on his gums but she sent the wrong picture via text message, a nude one of herself, that was intended for her boyfriend. She is quoted as saying, “The dentist is, like, 80 years old. I literally screamed at the top of my lungs. Is there an app? Like, ‘Uh-oh!”

As my colleague Bobbie here at ParentingTodayKids said, “Why does she have naked pictures of herself on her cell phone? Isn’t she a mom? People are stupid.”

Wow. Now that’s embarrassing. National news, no but embarrassing, yes. If a celebrity accidentally sending racy pictures to the wrong person via text message is national news, why are any of us parents surprised even for a second that teenagers, and even kids, are doing the same thing? And in a lot of cases not by accident.

I would actually be more surprised if the typical teen was not doing this. High school is still high school and middle school is still middle school … now there just is all this technology and large audience and instant connectivity to make a mistake in a half of a second that will now be national news.

Parents. We. Need. To. Wake. Up.

Parenting should not stop when your kid gets online or on the smartphone. Be there for them … chances are our teens need as much of our attention as they did when they were a toddler.

If grownups do this by accident I be a lot of kids have done this also. If moms have nude pics on their phones, of course teenager, or at least a lot of teens, have them on their phone too.

  2. Most of whatever you articulate happens to be astonishingly precise and it makes me ponder why I hadn’t looked at this in this light previously.
