Learn How Kids Embrace, Consume and Socialize Using Technology

Secret Lives of Teens…

By Teen WritersApril 8, 2012

 Eboni, 14 years, Florida.

I can still remember the look on your face as you received that phone call. By the time I saw your tears I knew what had happened. Cell phones are like the devices of bad news. If someone dies you get a phone call or text message. It sucks that people can never say the bad things to your face, so they use cell phones to their advantage.

Cell phones are a huge issue for teens nowadays. I remember getting a text from this guy I liked saying “I love you best friend” and then within a week he pushed me away for someone else. He texted me and said that we couldn’t be friends. I still have that text that says he loves me. Cell phones hold some of the deepest memories and secrets. They say that actions speak louder then words, but in this case words speak louder than actions.

Aside from cell phones, the Internet is also a huge issue for teens too. People use the Internet to put some of people’s deepest secrets on blast. They also use the Internet to talk about you, thinking you won’t find out. It’s hard to accept the fact that people who don’t even know you use the Internet to talk about you or use you. There is this girl that is using my picture for a teen chat website and I still don’t know how to confront her. The Internet is filled with lies and pain.

One day I was with a friend and she posted some mean things about me online. She called me a spoiled brat and everything in the book. I was so mad and confused that I didn’t want to be around anyone. I just wanted to be alone. Soon enough (3 days later) I just forgave her and put the past behind me (hakuna matata)!

As you know, in every story there is something to learn. With cell phones I learned that you can’t believe everything someone says to you. Someday everything will make sense. So for now smile at the confusion, laugh through the tears, and remember that everything happens for a reason. As for the Internet, don’t let it ruin you. This is your world, shape it or someone else will. You need to take control and responsibility for your life. Be who you want to be and don’t let anyone walk over you.
