Learn How Kids Embrace, Consume and Socialize Using Technology

If Congressmen Anthony Weiner Sent Lewd Pictures, What Can We Expect from Kids?

By Parenting Today's KidsJuly 16, 2012

Remember one of our leaders of this fine country, Anthony Weiner?  You know, the grown man  (Congressman actually!) who took lewd pictures of himself and then emailed them to women about a year ago?  As a result, this leader had to resign from office.

I just read that he wants to return to politics and is considering a run for mayor of New York.  “He wants to return to politics, according to friends and former staff members,” The New York Times reported, adding that if Weiner doesn’t spend his campaign cash next year, he will lose an opportunity to get matching funds.

I am not into politics.  At all.  But hearing this guy’s name in the news again makes me want to remind EVERYONE that often  we are our own worst enemies.  We act without thinking and the results can be devastating.  How can we expect kids, whose brains are not fully developed, to know how to stop and think BEFORE  they upload or text an inappropriate picture of themselves?   We really can’t, can we?  In the matter of less than a second and only with one tiny click, a kid’s reputation can be ruined forever.
Parents need to wake up and have important conversations with their kids about this issue.  We need to help protect these kids…not only from others but also from themselves.  It is too easy to just arm kids with all this technology and then go about our busy lives.

Use Weiner and his choices to talk to your kids today.
